Juneteenth — June 19, 1865 — marks the day Union soldiers reached Galveston, Texas and announced the end of slavery, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is now a federal holiday and a day of celebration, reflection, and cultural pride for Black Americans nationwide — honoring the long road to freedom and the resilience of a people.
